Many (westerners) have called it:
– The Dark Continent
-The Hopeless, Threatening Continent
Many things have been said about this continent of mine. A place of darkness, as Joseph Conrad once called it… I think he must have been smoking or drunk.
Like any other place in the world, Africa has some of the most heart-wrenching, anger inducing, stories to tell. It is not a perfect place, oh by all means, it is not… We have wars, diseases, poverty, corruption. We struggle, indeed…
One must also be forced to stand back and look at the WONDER that is this beautiful continent.
The richness in our cultures, or tradition, our history, our PEOPLE.
Africa boasts an array of beautiful people, cultures, tradition, that go so far into history, that we stand alone, in the world as the most richly blessed continent: boasting difference, beauty, diversity, in a diaspora of different places, beautiful lands…
They can say it all, but THIS continent boasts the best in everything. The people, the land, mother nature has blessed this continent. We boast some of the most breath taking places and spaces, unlike any I have seen in the world. All due to mother nature.
WITH THAT SAID: HOW CAN WE SAY THAT THIS CONTINENT IS NOT BLESSED?
Indeed I comprehend that with extreme blessings and wealth/ come the extreme challenges this continent has to face.
This however does not make me any less of an African, or any other AFRICAN less of who they are. The blessings of how ONLY IN AFRICA can people relate to one another with smiles, and the spirit of Ubuntu, because we know, that we come from one mother: AFRICA. It lives within us, is innate, and dies with us. This is what we know, this is who we are.
And we continue to rise…
God Bless Africa…Aluta
As Kwame Nkrumah said: “I am not African because i was born in Africa but because Africa was born in ME”.
As a PROUD South African
And a BLESSED AFRICAN.
